Staff Changes and New Hires

Roslynnn Hooks has been promoted to the new position of Senior Program Manager. This promotion is a recognition of responsibilities she has taken on in recent years for program quality, training, database management and communication with the JA Worldwide education group. Roz will continue to serve schools and volunteers in Hartford, East Hartford, West Hartford, Bloomfield, Newington, Wethersfield, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill and Manchester. Roz joined the JA staff in 1999 and has been responsible for significant growth of JA classes in the Hartford area.

We have hired Darchelle Hutchins as a new district manager. Darchelle worked in the Manchester and Vernon public school systems as a tutor for special education students and taught English to night school students. She also has a background in radio promotion. Her district includes towns north of Hartford (Windsor to Suffield) and east to the Rhode Island border, incuding such communities as Enfield, East Windsor, Vernon, Colchester, Windham and Putnam.

Mary-Gail Smith, a seasoned professional with a strong record in fund-raising, has joined the JA staff as Vice President, Contributions. She will be responsible for raising revenue for our organization through contributions from corporations, individuals, foundations and other funders.

Mary Jane Lund is now our Vice President for Special Events. In that role, she is responsible for all of our fund-raising events -- the Governor's Golf Classic, the Business Halls of Fame in Hartford and New Haven and our Bowl-a-thons. She also will be developing other special events, especially in the areas outside of Hartford where we are establishing strong bases of support.

Jeremy Race, who has been a JA district manager for the last five years, is moving into our development department as development manager. In this position, Jeremy will be responsible for raising funds in communities where JA has established strong programs, through grant-writing, solicitation of both corporations and individuals and other grass-roots efforts.

Dawn Conroy has become a district manager and takes over Jeremy's territory. Dawn, who has been our special events coordinator for the last two years, has a background in education and has been an active JA classroom volunteer since joining our staff.

Finally, Peter Blum, who has been a part-time district manager for the last two years, is expanding his hours and becoming a full time employee. His territory will be enlarged to include Wallingford, Meriden and Southington, in addition to his responsibilities in the Waterbury, Litchfield County and Farmington Valley areas.
